  1. St.Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church in Scranton Represents CHARITY CONCERT BY LIUDMYLA CHYCHUK

AUGUST 17 6:00 P.M. Doors- 5:30 p.m., free admission Mairian Chapel/ Swartz Center for Spiritual Life, 1 O’Reilly Circle, Dunmore, PA 18509 Liudmyla Chychuk is a Ukrainian concert pianist, renowned educator and founder of “Power of Art” project that introduces Ukrainian music, literature, art, and folk traditions to audiences in Ukraine and around the world. She has been teaching at Mykola Lysenko Kyiv State Music Lyceum for twenty years. As a concert pianist, she regularly performs classical, jazz, and folk music throughout Ukraine and abroad. Since the Crimea annexation in 2014, Liudmyla has brought the power of music to help Ukrainian affected by russian invasion. She gave numerous charitable concerts helping the war victims and supporting defenders on the frontline.

  • Ukrainian Day this Sunday in Minersville

The 89th annual Ukrainian Day will be held this Sunday, July 30th, at St. Nicholas Church picnic grounds, route 901 in Primrose (just outside Minersville) from 11:00am-8:00pm. This annual event is sponsored by the 12 parishes and faithful of the South Anthracite Deanery under the leadership of their pastors. Plans for the day include a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with the clergy of the deanery at 11:00am and the Food Sale will start at 1:00pm with delicious ethnic and regional foods prepared by the parishes of the deanery.  Pyrohy, Halushki, Halupki, Potato Cakes, Kielbasa, Soups, Desserts and more.  Kazka Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, John Stevens’ Polka Band. Theme Basket Auction.  Vendors and Crafters.  Games and Fun for the whole family.  Free Parking.  Free Admission.  Rain or Shine.  Proceeds benefit the St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Seminary.  Everyone Welcome!

“Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church will hold the 3rd and last of their Why Cook Wednesday Dinners for the Summer with an a La Carte, Ukrainian Festival Food, Take-Out Dinner on Wednesday, August 16th.  Order from a menu of festival foods including; holubtsi (piggies)…$3/each, pyrohy (pierogies)…3 for $3.00, kovbasa & kapusta (kielbasa & sauerkraut)…$5.00/each, halushki (cabbage & noodles)…$3.00/pint and Pagash (potato pizza)…$2.00/cut.  Pick-Ups from 4:00 to 7:00pm in their school hall on the corner of North River and West Chestnut Streets, near the General Hospital Parkade in Wilkes-Barre.  Take-Out Only and Pre-Orders are strongly encouraged.  Place your order by calling the School Hall Kitchen (570) 829-3051.  Bake Sale items available and tickets will also be sold for a Basket Raffle.  Remember…When Baba Cooks, Everybody’s Happy!”

  • Blessing of Fruit next Weekend

The Transfiguration of Our Lord Holy Day is next Sunday, August 6th.  A Holy Day Divine Liturgy will be held at the usual time of 9:00am.  As is our custom, the Blessing of Fruit will take place.  When you come to Church on this special Holy Day, bring Fruit to be Blessed.  Also, Blessing of Fruit will take place on Saturday, Holy Transfiguration Eve, after Divine Liturgy.

  • Collection for Church Repairs next Weekend

A reminder that Donations for Church repairs can be made next Weekend, August 5th & 6th.  Please use the specially marked envelope to make your contribution.  Thank you to everyone for your generosity toward the upkeep of our buildings and property.
