Ukrainian Folkdance

Scranton’s St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic parish is sponsoring a performance by the Ukrainian Folkdance group “Barvinok” [Periwinkle in Ukrainian] on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 4:00pm at its parish center 428 North Seventh Avenue. The highly acclaimed dance group which hails from the Metropolitan New Jersey/New York City area has appeared in numerous venues on the East Coast and in Ukraine where they took first place in an international folk dance competition. Under the direction of Mr. Gregory Momot, the troupe performs traditional dances from various regions of Ukraine while attired in colorful embroidered costumes. Mr. Momot was trained at the Kyiv Cultural University and danced with the world reknowned Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company. His energetic and intricate choreography along with beautiful regional costumes bring alive the electrifying spirit of Ukrainian dance.  Tickets are $10.00 in advance – $12.00 at the door and can be purchased by contacting Kristen Waznak at 570 241-1223.

Pierogi Sale

Pyrohy/Pierogi for Lent

St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic parish is sponsoring a freshly made Lenten pyrohy/pierogi sale on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at the parish center, 428 North Seventh Avenue. Cost is $7.00 per dozen and must be ordered in advance no later than Tuesday, February 13 by phoning Leslie at 570 342-3749.

Pre-Lenten Dinner

Father Myron Myronyuk and his parish family of Scranton’s St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church cordially invite you to join us for our annual Pre-Lenten PORK & SAUERKRAUT/ KAPUSTA DINNER on Sunday, February 4, 2018, beginning at 12:15pm at St. Vladimir Parish Center, 428 North Seventh Avenue – between West Lackawanna Avenue and West Linden Street. 

Menu: slow roasted pork loin, gravy, Ukrainian kapusta (sweet and sour cabbage), mashed potatoes, vegetable, bread and rolls, dessert, coffee, tea, beverages.Adults $13.00; Students $8.00 (age 6-12); Age 5 and under free. Advance reservations for both sit-down and take-out are required and can be made with Maria Black at 570 503-1514 no later than Tuesday, January 30th . Take-outs available between 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon only.

Homemade Pyrohy For Your November Supper

The parishioners of Scranton’s St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church are sponsoring a homemade pyrohy sale on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 2:00 to 6:00pm in the Parish Center, 428 North Seventh Avenue. These are freshly made that day and are not frozen. Cost is $7.00 per dozen.

Orders must be placed no later than Monday, October 30 and are being taken by Leslie at 570 342-3749.

Christmastime Bus Trip

“Scranton’s St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is sponsoring a Christmastime bus trip to New York City on Saturday, December 9, 2017. There will be three stops in Manhattan:

the Ukrainian Village on the lower East Side, Bryant Park’s Winter Village housing 125  vendors in midtown, and the Christmassy Fifth Avenue area. Everyone will have an opportunity to enjoy some tasty Ukrainian goodies, see many beautiful Christmas decorations as only New York City can do it including the famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center and more. Participants can follow the above three-stop itinerary or are free to do their own thing for part or all of the day. Departure from St. Vladimir Church, 428 North Seventh Avenue will be at 8:00 am and departure from New York City for home will beat 8:30 pm. Cost is $42.00 per person. Christmas Bus trip

Some might think it’s too early to begin taking reservations for the upcoming December 9 bus trip to New York City, however several area organizations have begun advertising and accepting reservations for their December trips. So, here’s the scoop on our trip:

CHRISTMASTIME BUS TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY

On Saturday, December 9, 2017, Scranton’s St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish is sponsoring a Christmastime bus trip to New York City. Stops will include the Ukrainian Village on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Bryant Park Outdoor Christmas Shoppes and the mid-town Rockefeller Center/Fifth Avenue/Times Square area. Participants are also welcome to do their own thing for all or part of the day if they so wish.

The 55 passenger bus would depart from Edwardsville’s St. Vladimir Church, 70 Zerby Avenue at 8:00am provided there are sufficient riders from the Edwardsville, Wilkes-Barre and Berwick areas. Departure from Scranton’s St. Vladimir Church, 428 North Seventh Avenue would be at 8:45am. Departure for home would be at 8:30pm. Cost is $42.00 per person. If by chance a pickup in Edwardsville is not needed, departure from Scranton and departure from NYC for home would be adjusted.
